His solo career reached a fever pitch with the release of his Platinum album, Standing Hampton, in 1981. Sammy Hagar tour dates were hotly anticipated events on both sides of the Atlantic. His energetic performances garnered the attention of rock mega-group, Van Halen, who recruited Hagar to be lead singer once David Lee Roth departed for a solo career.

Hagar released four multi-Platinum records with Van Halen before returning to his solo career in the mid-90s. Since Van Halen, Hagar has been busy recording music with the Waboritas and he has become a local of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
